Junk Removal Cost in Toronto: 2026 Price Guide
Junk removal in Toronto is priced mostly by how much of the truck your items fill. Published GTA rates in October 2026 start around $99 to $299 for a quarter load and run $449 to $575 for a full truck. Heavy debris, awkward access and items with special disposal rules push the price up.
What Sets the Price of Junk Removal in Toronto?
Volume is the biggest factor, followed by weight, access and what the items are.
Most haulers price by the share of the truck your junk takes up: an eighth, a quarter, a half, three quarters or a full load. A few large items might fill a quarter. A garage full of boxes, bikes and old shelving can fill the whole truck. Beyond volume, these things move the price:
- Weight. Concrete, tile, plaster, soil and roofing are dense. A half load of renovation debris can weigh several times more than a half load of furniture, and disposal sites charge by weight.
- Item type. Mattresses, appliances and electronics often go to different places than general junk, which means extra handling.
- Access. A sofa at the curb is quick. The same sofa in a basement with a tight turn at the bottom of the stairs, or on the 20th floor of a condo with a booked elevator window, takes longer.
- Distance. How far the truck travels to you and then to the disposal site adds time and fuel.
- Disposal and recycling fees. Most haulers build these into the load price. The City of Toronto, for example, charges $189.86 per tonne for garbage and renovation waste dropped at its depots (City of Toronto depot fees).
- Timing. A rush job has to be fitted around booked work. Tanco offers same-day junk removal, so if you need it gone today, say so in your request.
How Much Does Junk Removal Cost by Load Size?
Among GTA companies that publish prices, a quarter load starts at $99 to $299 and a full load at $449 to $575.
The table shows prices exactly as three GTA companies list them on their own websites, checked on October 13, 2026. These are market prices, not Tanco Transport's. Truck sizes differ between companies, so a "quarter load" isn't the same volume everywhere.
| Company (source) | 1/4 load | 1/2 load | 3/4 load | Full load | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Junk N Truck | From $99 | From $249 | From $349 | From $449 | Starting rates, final price confirmed on site; disposal included |
| We-Haul Disposal | $250 | $375 | $475 | $575 | 12 × 7 × 5 ft box; concrete, tile, plaster or soil cost extra |
| Junk 'Of' Urs | $299 | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed | About 15 cubic yard box; HST included |
Larger national companies tend not to publish dollar figures. 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, for one, explains that it prices by how much truck space your items take up and gives the number after seeing the job.
Two things to check on any quote: whether HST is included, and whether the price is a "starting" rate that can change once the crew sees the job. Prices also change, so treat these as a snapshot.
How Does Tanco Price Junk Removal?
Tanco charges a minimum charge, and the price rises with the size of the load.
A single item or a small pile is covered by the minimum. From there, the more of the truck your junk fills, the higher the price. Heavy or special items cost extra, depending on the item and its weight. Same-day junk removal is available.

Which Items Cost Extra or Can't Be Taken?
Heavy construction debris often costs extra, and household hazardous waste usually can't go on a junk truck at all.
At Tanco, heavy or special items cost extra, depending on the item and its weight. Other companies do the same: We-Haul, for instance, lists concrete, tile, plaster and soil as extra. Junk 'Of' Urs states it won't take paint, chemicals, fuels, asbestos or biomedical waste. Those limits are common across the industry, because hazardous materials have their own disposal rules.
The City of Toronto defines household hazardous waste as anything corrosive, flammable, explosive or poisonous, including paint, motor oil, fuel, pesticides, batteries and light bulbs. It must not go in the garbage or down the drain (City of Toronto household hazardous waste). Propane tanks belong in this group too.
Tires are another one to plan for. The City doesn't collect them at the curb, and its depots aren't accepting them until further notice (City of Toronto accepted items). Ask about tires before you book.
Whatever you have, list it when you ask for a quote. A surprise on pickup day is the most common reason a price changes. Our junk removal prep guide covers how to sort and set aside these items.
What Does the City of Toronto Pick Up for Free?
If you get City garbage collection, oversized items, appliances and electronics set out on garbage day are collected at no charge per pickup.
For houses, the City picks up oversized items placed beside your garbage bin on your collection day. That includes furniture, mattresses, box springs, bed frames, toilets, appliances, barbecues without the propane tank, hot water heaters and more. Remove the doors from fridges, ovens and other appliances first, and leave space between items (City of Toronto oversized and metal items). It isn't completely free: an annual fee for the service is charged to every house and multi-residential unit, whether you use it or not.
Electronics are collected free as well. Set them out on garbage day, half a metre from your bin, with small items in a clear bag or open box (City of Toronto electronic waste).
In apartments and condos, oversized items, hazardous waste and electronics are collected free from buildings that receive City collection, so ask your building where to leave them (City of Toronto apartment and condo collection).
For hazardous waste, the City's free Toxic Taxi picks up between 10 and 50 litres or kilograms per visit, booked online or through 311. Its depots also take hazardous waste and electronics free of charge.
What the City won't collect at the curb is construction and renovation waste such as drywall, lumber and shingles. For that, it points you to a drop-off depot or a private company.
When Does Paying a Junk Removal Company Make Sense?
Paying makes sense when the City's schedule, rules or your own time and strength don't fit the job.
| Situation | Usually the better fit |
|---|---|
| One old sofa or mattress at a house, no rush | City oversized pickup on garbage day |
| A broken TV or old laptop | City e-waste pickup or a depot (free) |
| Paint, propane, batteries, chemicals | Toxic Taxi or a City depot |
| Items in a basement, upstairs or a condo unit you can't carry out yourself | Junk removal company |
| A full garage, basement or estate cleanout | Junk removal company |
| Renovation debris (drywall, tile, lumber) | Depot drop-off with fees, or a junk removal company |
| A deadline, such as a closing date or move-out | Junk removal company |
The City only picks up from the curb or your building's collection point. Someone still has to carry the dresser out of the basement. A hauler does the lifting and the loading, takes everything in one trip and sorts out where it goes.
Tanco Transport handles construction debris removal, estate, garage and basement cleanouts and appliance and furniture removal, all with our own truck. We work across the GTA, from downtown condos in Toronto to houses in Scarborough, Etobicoke and Mississauga.
